About Prof. Vikram Kumar

Prof, Vikram Kumar is well known int the area of semiconductor materials characterization and device technology. His early work ,on ulra thin oxide MOS structures is cited widely. His extensive work towords the understanding of electronic defects and interface states in silicon, III-V and II--VI semiconductors lead to the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award In 1992.

As the Director of the Sold Stile Phpsics Laboratory, he has contributed toward the development of technology of materials and device, some of which reached production stage. His team developed the technology of 0.7 gate implanted MESFET and 0.5 pseudomorphic HEMT using MBE grown strained layer ALGAAS/inGaAs/GaAs structures He lid the team for letting up GaAs Enabing Technology Centre (GAETEC) foundry for pilot production of monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) that is supplying device to Various user including defenceand space.his team has also developed the technolgy for growth of single crystals of CdZnTe and GaAs and supplied device quality wafers .he also contributed to the development HgCdTe based PV nad PC infra-red Detectors.

under his directorship,Npl underwent international peer reviews to fulfill the requirement of BIPM mutual recognition arrangement.kumar is currentlly wotking in the area of polymner electonics.at NPL he initiated programme on silicon and organic solar cells.in particular,he has been modelling carrier transport in organic materials. he has been contributing to the development of science and technology in india as member of several nationally important committees.he palyed a key role in starting the national programme on smart materials, and as chairman of the committee for development of devices,has guided the develeopment of MEMS Technology in india. he is a fellow of the NASc,INAE nad IETE in addition to being a member of several professional societies.
